Artistic Curriculum
Our school is unique in its concentration on performance.
There are 5 main elements to a pupil’s artistic experience at the school.
1. The school’s annual show involves every pupil regardless of ability, and is the major event in the school’s artistic year. It is unusually about 2 hours long and professionally filmed. Pupils and teachers can therefore see their progress from year to year. Industry professionals and casting agents are also invited. If a pupil has an individual talent the annual show also gives them an opportunity to develop & express it in solo performance.
2. Pupils are represented by our Theatrical Agency and auditions for professional work in Television, film and Theatre are an integral part of the school experience. Our pupils are very successful in gaining professional work due to the fact that they are confident, happy & natural children.
3. Stage & medal examinations in Musical Theatre, Ballet, Tap and Modern Dance of the IDTA examination board are also geared to performance but inclusive of technique.
4. GCSE Dance, Drama & Expressive Arts taken in year 10 & 11 provide opportunities to study contemporary and other styles of dance while incorporating individual talents in different genres of performance and also generally build confidence on stage.
5. Pupils showing ability or potential may be accepted into special after school classes offered free as part of the curriculum. From these classes pupils may be selected to represent the school in any cabaret performances which the school is asked to present. Recent performances have taken place at The Theatre Royal, Windsor, The Royal Lancaster Hotel, and the Kenneth More Theatre.
